Have you ever wanted to get the smell of perfume out of something and not been able to get rid of it? Cat pee? The new smell in a car?
SIMPLE SOLUTION: I’ve figured out how to remove most odors using kitchen cupboard ingredients, all except mothballs, and even chemical experts say the only way to rid something of the smell of moth balls is the sun. Keep these odor tips to tack on your laundry room wall:
Perfume – Soak or spray with white distilled vinegar (in both instances let set for a few hours before rinsing, or for spraying just let the smell dissipate)
Chemical Smell in Fabric -Soak overnight in 1 cup of baking soda before washing as usual.
Soot —Washing soda (wash area with 1 gallon to water to ¼ cup washing soda; let set for an hour or so before rinsing).
PVC/Plastic – Set plastic shower curtains, etc., in the sun, or wash with soap flakes and water once a week (about ¼ cup to 1 gallon warm water). Alternatively, set the plastic item in the sun as often as possible.
Biological Odors Many biological odors contain both alkaline and acidic components, hence the alternating of baking soda and vinegar. When in doubt for any biological odor, follow directions for "Pet Pee," below. Pet Pee – Vinegar and Baking soda, alternating. (Place white distilled vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it straight onto the pee assuming the area can handle moisture; let kit set for an hour or so before rinsing. Follow by sprinkling the area with baking soda. Mist the baking soda with water. Let it set for a few hours before vacuuming. Keep alternating until the odor is gone.)
Perspiration -- Baking soda. (Scrub a thick baking soda paste into the perspiration on the fabric; let set for an hour before laundering as usual. For personal hygiene, powder baking soda under your arms, making it slightly moist beforehand to help is stick if needed.)
Vomit – Vinegar and baking soda, alternating (follow directions for “Pet Pee”).

back in grade school when one of my classmates vomitted on the cement floor, the janitor would come in with soil and put some on the vomit then sweep the mixture away and the smell too also went away

An amazing odor remover when you can't find the source is a shallow dish of ammonia placed under something where it can't be spilled or reached by pets.

Brk Brk....mothballs. I once found a tip to put mothbally smelling books in a sealed garbage bag with absorbent kitty litter (which I put in a paper bag to prevent it from spilling over) and it seemed to work out.

Soaking clothes in powdered milk and water will also remove many odors. Something about the enzymes in the milk does it.

As a nurse I have had a lot of success with hair spray for ball point ink. But todays pens we use have a different make than the old ball point pens, e.g. gell pens. Plus I don't know about hairspray on leather.
Vineger, baking soda and lemons are wonderful cleaning and refreshening agents. I use baking soda in place of Comet, etc. all the time. Baking soda & vineger have a perminent place by my kitchen sink.

When your shoes stink, it is time to get rid of them. It means they are bacteria laden and past their prime. Stinky feet can be helped by soaking them in a strong solution of black tea daily. Oil stains can be removed with corn starch. Cover the spot with corn starch and let sit over night, then bruch off and launder. You can also use baby poweder, but talc is a carcinogen.

For Sharon on removing the oil, grease, and gas. My hubby gets diesel and grease on his clothes all week long. I tried everything I could come up with. I finally tried an orange citrus degreaser/cleaner. One little cap full added to the wash does the trick. No stain, and no nasty smell left!)

To get rid of cigarette smoke smell, wash the fabric using baking soda. For carpeting, sprinkle with baking soda, sweep in, and let sit over night or longer.

Living in Japan, I use charcoal sticks as home deodorizer, now very popular in all sizes, set around the house, and especially in the refrigerator.

I have added white vinegar to a small rug I was washing that the cat had peed on more than once. It came out smelling great!

great ideas. Also for an inexpensive air freshener use vinegar dilluted with water and pickling spices heat on low. Makes the house smell great.

Baby power is a great to repel ants. I sprinkle a line of it it around the back door, inside and out, when ants try to come in in the summer time. It smells like a baby (what a sweet fragrance)and is non-toxic to pets and children. I understand the talc smothers the ants. Our cats won't play in it and of course, it is best to not let children play in it either.

For a candle dripped on the carpet, use a brown paper bag and a warm iron and iron the wax and color right out of the carpet.....works as I've tried it...

Another air freshener idea: boil up some chai tea or a herbal tea whose smell you like. For paint odor, I've heard that cutting an onion in half and leaving the cut onion halves around will soak up the smell. Of course, I assume this is a workable solution only if you don't mind the smell of the onion.

Nie to read and imagine. I remember my gym teacher telling us about vinagar in the arm pits of our gym suits so they would not stink.
Baking soda is the frig/freezer unstinker of the last century. Febreze, sold here for fabrics can unstink kitty litter and strange unid able smells.
Iron with paper between for removing wax-- may melt some synthetic fibers (carpets-mats)Holly T
